Autism Research
Bernard Rimland, Ph.D.
A research psychologist, Dr. Rimland has studied the relationship
between nutrition and retardation, hyperactivity, learning disabilities,
delinquency and, primarily, autism since the mid-1960's. He is director
of the Autism Research Institute, editor of the Autism Research
Review International, and founder of the Autism Society of America.
His book Infantile Autism: The Syndrome and Its Implications for a
Neural Theory of Behavior
is credited with dramatically altering the field of psychiatry with the
recognition that autism is a biological disorder, not an emotional
illness. Dr. Rimland served as the chief technical advisor for the
Academy-award winning film Rainman.

Biochemistry
Jon Pangborn, Ph.D.,
received a doctoral degree in chemical engineering. After working in
nuclear research and the field of alternative fuels, he became
interested in the biochemistry of human metabolism. He developed a novel
procedure for evaluating amino acid analyses and founded Bionostics,
Inc., as a consulting organization. He is a holder of 9 U. S. patents,
and author of over 200 publications and presentations. Dr. Pangborn is
Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists, is certified as a Clinical
Nutritionist, and serves regularly on the faculties of the American
Academy of Environmental Medicine and the American Academy of
Otolaryngic Allergy. He works closely with Dr. Bernard Rimland in the
area of autism research, and also maintains a database on Tourette
syndrome.

Biofeedback
John Spencer, Ph.D.;
Dr. Spencer retired as Senior Health Science Policy Analyst for the
Office for the Study of Alternative Medical Practices at the National
Institutes of Health. His work has focused on acupuncture, hypnosis, and
biofeedback methodologies as well as electromagnetic fields effects on
clinical behavior. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Professional Neuropsychology and a certified psychologist. Dr. Spencer
will advise Latitudes
in research methodology, and serves as our specialist in the field of
Body/Mind Medicine. He is presently concentrating on writing and
lecturing.

Biomagnetics
William Philpott,
M.D.
is an author, psychiatrist, and environmental allergist. He was a
founding member of the Orthomolecular Psychiatry organization. He has
served on the editorial board of the Journal of Orthomolecular
Psychiatry
(presently Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine) since 1969 and was
a previous editor of the Journal of Metabology. Dr. Philpott
wrote
Brian Allergies: The PsychoNutrient Connection, documenting
research with psychiatric patients who responded more positively to
dietary management and nutritional supplementation than to tranquilizers
and antidepressants. He is currently studying the role of negative
magnetic energy for a variety of health conditions, and recently wrote
the Biomagnetics Handbook.

CranioSacral Therapy and Acupuncture
John Upledger, D.O.;
Dr. Upledger specializes in Osteopathic Manipulation, CranioSacral
Therapy, SomatoEmotional Release, Acupuncture and Preventative Medicine.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy, and has a Doctor
of Science in Alternative Medicine. For several years he served as a
clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics at Michigan State
University. His development of CranioSacral Therapy has brought him
international recognition. A respected author and innovator in the field
of alternative treatments, he established the Upledger Institute in Palm
Beach Gardens, FL. His most recent books are The Inner Physician and
You and A Brain is Born.

Environmental Medicine
Marshall Mandell, M.D.
is author of the best-selling 5-day Allergy Relief System and
Mandell's Lifetime Arthritis Relief System. He is a fellow of the
American College of Allergists, the International Academy for Preventive
Medicine, the Society for Clinical Ecology, and the Academy of
Orthomolecular Psychiatry. He has served as head of the Alan Mandell
Center for Bioecologic Disease and Medical Director of the New England
Foundation for Allergic and Environmental Diseases. Dr. Mandell was the
recipient of the prestigious Forman Gold Medal for his original research
into arthritis and allergies of the nervous system.

William Rea, M.D.,
F.A.A.E.M.; Dr. Rea is the founder and director of a highly
specialized Dallas-based medical facility, the Environmental Health
Center. He is also a practicing thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon.
Author of the medical textbook Chemical Sensitivity, Vols., I &
II and co-author of Your Home, Your Health, and Well-Being, he
has published more than 100 research papers on related topics. Dr. Rea
was named to the world's first professorial chair of environmental
medicine at the University of Surry in Guilford, England. He serves on
the board of directors of both the American Academy of Environmental
Medicine and the American Environmental Health Foundation. He previously
served on the Science Advisory Board for the U. S. Environmental
Protection Agency.

Albert Robbins, D.O., F.A.A.E.M., Robbins Environmental Medical
center is located in Boca Raton, Florida. He is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Environmental Medicine, and Board Certified by the American
Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine/Occupational/Environmental
Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the International Board of Environmental
Medicine and the American Board of Environmental Medicine. Dr. Robbins
specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, allergies, and
chemical sensitivity. Publications have focused on chemically-induced
illnesses. He serves as editor of the Environmental Physician. Dr.
Robbins has demonstrated a particular interest in Tourette syndrome and
attention deficit disorders.

Sherry Rogers,
M.D., F.A.A.E.M. is a specialist in Environmental Medicine in
Syracuse, New York. She is board certified by the American Board of
Environmental Medicine and the American Academy of Family Practice. She
is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology. Dr.
Rogers teaches advanced courses for physicians on environmental medicine
techniques and lectures extensively at the international level. She is
an author of 6 books, including Depression, Cured at Last! She
has developed a special interest in Tourette syndrome and hyperactivity,
and has repeatedly reported an observed link between related symptoms
and diet, nutritional deficiencies, and environmental factors.

William Shrader, M.D.,
F.A.A.E.M. Dr. Shrader is recognized as the national expert on
the newest form of immunotherapy, Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization
(EPD). He is president of the EPD society and is responsible for
conducting EPD training sessions. Dr. Shrader is board certified in
Environmental Medicine, a fellow of the American Academy of
Environmental Medicine (AAEM) and on the Board of Directors for the
AAEM. He is also a member of the American College of Allergy and
Immunology. He specializes in environmental medicine and orthomolecular
therapy in his practice in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Homeopathy
Judyth
Reichenberg-Ullman, N.D. is a board certified diplomate of the
Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Reichenberg-Ullman
has served as its past vice president. She is also president of the
International Foundation for Homeopathy, and practices in Edmonds,
Washington. She co-authored
Ritalin Free Kids and The Patient's Guide to Homeopathic
Medicine. She specializes in the treatment of children with
attention disorders with or without hyperactivity. Dr.
Reichenberg-Ullman lectures nationally and has been a writer for
publications such as the International Journal of Alternative and
Complementary Medicine, Resonance, and the
Townsend Letter for Doctors.
Dana Ullman, M.P.H.;
Acknowledged throughout the world as an educator and spokesperson for
homeopathic medicine, Dana Ullman has written four books, including
Discovering Homeopathy and Medicine for the 21st Century. He
is President of the Foundation for Homeopathic Education and Research, a
board member of the National Center for Homeopathy and director of
Homeopathic Educational Services. He has served as publisher of
twenty-five books on homeopathy by other authors. Dana Ullman has
provided an essential critique of the homeopathic movement in order to
deepen its influence on health care and its impact on society.

Internal Medicine
Joseph T. Rogers,
D.O.; Accomplishments include President of the American College
of Osteopathic Internists, President of the American College of
Osteopathic Cardiologists, and President of the Interstate Cardiac
Society. He was the first clinical dean of the West Virginia School of
Osteopathic Medicine and has been a member of the faculty at Michigan
State College of Osteopathic Medicine. A practicing cardiologist in
Trenton, Michigan, Dr. Rogers is active in committee work for the
American Lung Association and the International Commission on Air
Pollution. He is chairman of a grassroots environmental network and a
member of National Physicians for Social Responsibility. He lectures to
professional and lay groups from his special expertise on the adverse
effects of pesticides and other chemicals in foods.

Irlen Scotopic Sensitivity
Helen Irlen, M.S.
has received international recognition for identifying what she refers
to as Scotopic Sensitivity/Irlen Syndrome. She is the executive director
of the Irlen Institute for Perceptual and Learning Development, in Long
Beach, California, with affiliated clinics throughout the U.S. and the
world. She is the author of Reading by the Colors, a text that
traces the origins of Scotopic Sensitivity as a diagnosis related to
many learning problems, and includes recommended remedial approaches.
Her work and its application to learning disabilities have received wide
exposure through textbooks, media articles, and television.

Learning Disabilities
Ricki Linksman, M.S.
is the author of How to Learn Anything Quickly, Solving Your
Child's Reading Problems and The Vowel and Consonant Guide.
She founded and directs the National Reading Diagnostics Institute in
Naperville, Illinois, and specializes in the development of remedial
reading instruction for youngsters who have been diagnosed with an
attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity. Ricki Linksman has worked
in the field of education for twenty-two years, and has written school
curriculums based on learning styles and hemispheric brain dominance.
She conducts training for teachers and professors nationwide.

Naturopathic Medicine
Leon Chaitow, N.D.,
D.O. is trained in osteopathy, naturopathy, and acupuncture, and
is the author of approximately 60 published books, including Amino
Acids in Therapy and the textbook Soft Tissue Manipulation
(both from Healing Arts Press), and Fibromyalgia and Muscle Pain
(Harper San Francisco). He is editor of the peer reviewed Journal of
Bodywork and Movement Therapies and senior lecturer at the
University of Westminister, London. Dr. Chaitow maintains a limited
practice, and lectures and trains students internationally. He is
currently developing textbooks and videos for publishers Churchill
Livingstone of Edinburgh and New York.

Orthomolecular Medicine
Abram Hoffer, M.D.,
Ph.D., F.R.C.P. Internationally recognized for his landmark
discoveries in the field of psychiatry and medicine, Dr. Hoffer is
author of the first widely examined biochemical theory of schizophrenia,
co-developer of the Hoffer-Osmond Diagnostic Test, and founder of the
Canadian Schizophrenia Foundation. Dr. Hoffer has authored approximately
500 papers in medical journals and has written several books including
Orthomolecular Medicine for Physicians. He serves as editor-in-chief
of the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine.
William Walsh, Ph.D.
is president and co-founder of the Health Research Institute of Chicago
and its clinical arm, the Carl Pfeiffer Treatment Center. He worked for
22 years as a research scientist/engineer, and has authored more than
150 journal articles and technical reports. A main area of interest has
been patterns of trace-metal imbalances in violent individuals, and he
is conducting research on crime prevention. Dr. Walsh collaborated with
Carl Pfeiffer, M.D., Ph.D., who spent many years researching biochemical
imbalances in psychotic populations.

Neurology / Psychiatry
Marshall Zaslove, M.D.
is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr.
Zaslove lives and practices in Napa, California. In addition to formal
training at UCLA School of Medicine and at the Neuropsychiatric
Institute, he studied homeopathy and alternative medicine in England. He
has been applying relaxation and meditation techniques in his hospital
and clinic practices for the past ten years. Dr. Zaslove served twice as
chief of staff at California's largest mental hospital, and has several
published articles. He conducts seminars on performance enhancement,
occupational stress prevention, and meditation.

Psychology
Mark Young, Ph.D.
Dr. Young is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of
Counseling at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida and is also an
Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins University. He has worked in private
practice for over twenty years. Dr. Young recently served as President
of the Florida Mental Health Counselors. He is an Editorial Board Member
for the American Counselor. Through the Center for Excellence in
Teaching, he works as a consultant for public schools. He has several
published books, including Counseling Methods and Techniques: an
Eclectic Approach. Dr. Young presents workshops in the United States
and abroad on the topics of group therapy, moral development, and
imagery.

Visual Training
Melvin Kaplan, O.D.
received his degree in 1953 from the Illinois College of Optometry. He
is presently in private practice in Tarrytown, New York, specializing in
visual-spatial management, treating patients with perceptual,
psychological, and autistic dysfunctions. Dr. Kaplan is a clinical
instructor of behavioral sciences in the Department of Psychiatry at New
York Medical College, Westchester County, New York. He also serves on
the Advisory Board of the Canadian Institute for Neuro-Integrative
Development. His published research has been on ambient lenses and their
role in the rehabilitation of individuals who display learning,
emotional, and autistic-spectrum disorders. Dr. Kaplan is now engaged in
research on the role of visual perception and autism.
